Arusberita.id – Dunia saat ini tengah dilanda krisis pangan akibat perubahan iklim yang cukup drastis. Kondisi ini membuat pemerintahan saat ini tengah berupaya mewujudkan ketahanan dan kemandirian pangan nasional.
Hal tersebut disampaikan oleh Presiden Joko Widodo (Jokowi) saat melakukan kunjungan ke Kabupaten Merauke, Papua Selatan. Tidak hanya pemerintahan saat ini, Jokowi menjamin pada pemerintahan berikutnya di Bawah nakhoda presiden terpilih Prabowo Subianto juga demikian.
“Kita tahu dunia sekarang sedang krisis pangan karena perubahan iklim, panas yang panjang, kering yang panjang, gelombang panas,” kata Jokowi, dikutip dari Youtube Sekretariat Presiden, Rabu (24/7/2024).
“Kemandirian pangan, ketahanan pangan, kedaulatan pangan, itu harus menjadi konsentrasi dan pemerintahan Pak Prabowo sudah menyampaikan bahwa beliau akan konsentrasi di pangan dan energi,” sambungnya.
Kunjungannya ke Merauke dalam rangka meninjau mega proyek Perkebunan Tebu Sermayam dan pembibitan di sana. Salah satu investor swasta yang terlibat dalam proyek swasembada gula dan bioetanol ini adalah PT Global Papua Abadi (PGA).
Jokowi mengatakan, sudah dilakukan sejumlah percobaan di Merauke dalam hal pengembangan lumbung pangan, namun tak jarang upaya itu gagal. Hingga akhirnya, saat ini ia melihat terjadi kemajuan yang pesat.
“Di sini sudah dicoba, tidak hanya sekali dua kali tapi tidak berhasil, tapi yang sekarang menurut saya kalau tadi saya melihat mulai dari awal pembibitan dengan tissue culture, penanaman beberapa varietas, hasilnya juga kelihatan sudah dicek berapa ton semuanya sudah secara saintifik sudah dijalani,” ujarnya.
Sedangkan apabila melihat kondisi di lapangan, menurutnya Kawasan ini memiliki potensi yang besar dengan lapangan yang datar dan air yang melimpah.
“Saya kira memang kesempatan untuk menjadikan Indonesia lumbung pangan di Merauke dan di sekitarnya. baik itu padi, jagung, maupun tebu. Tebu dan jagung bisa dipakai untuk gula pasir maupun bioethanol,” imbuhnya.
Ia juga menyambut positif niat baik perusahaan dalam mengawali upaya merawat lingkungan secara berkelanjutan. Salah satunya adalah dengan membuat persemaian yang memproduksi bibit maupun tanaman endemik Papua untuk merehabilitasi hutan-hutan yang ada.
“Jadi pangannya dapat, energi hijaunya dapat, tetapi juga hutannya tidak dirusak,” tutur Jokowi.
