Arusberita.id – Menteri Pertanian (Mentan), Amran Sulaiman, mengungkapkan rencana pemerintah untuk membangun kawasan industri gula seluas 1 sampai 2 juta hektar di Papua guna meningkatkan produksi gula dalam negeri.
“Membangun kawasan (industri gula) di Papua, rencana satu sampai dua juta hektar tapi sementara 200 ribu hektar untuk membuat pabrik gula,” kata Amran saat ditemui di Gedung Kementerian Pertanian, Jakarta Selatan pada Selasa (7/11/2023)
Amran menerangkan Papua dipilih menjadi tempat pembangunan kawasan industri gula itu karena kondisi iklim yang mendukung untuk penanaman tebu serta ketersediaan lahan yang mencukupi di wilayah tersebut.
“Agroclimate-nya pertama satu, yang kedua lahan yang luas. Jadi banyak pertimbangan. Ini kan industri besar, jadi sangat strategis kalau dibangun di Papua,” ujarnya.
Lebih lanjut Amran menerangkan untuk pembangunan satu pabrik gula di kawasan tersebut membutuhkan nilai investasi sebesar Rp 2,5 triliun sampai Rp 3 triliun yang dapat memproduksi 8 ribu hingga 12 ribu ton cane per day (TCD).
“Biasanya kalau yang Rp2,5 triliun – Rp3 triliun kapasitas itu 8 sampai 12 ribu TCD,” ungkap Amran.
Meskipun belum mengungkapkan kapan pembangunan kawasan industri itu dimulai, Amran menjelaskan beberapa investor tertarik untuk menanamkan modalnya dan pihaknya masih membuka peluang bagi pihak swasta untuk berinvestasi pada proyek tersebut.
“Nanti diundang swasta siapa yang berminat kita verifikasi. Kalau swasta syaratnya simpel, punya uang, bangun,” ucap Amran.
Dalam proyek tersebut, terang Amran, Indonesia mendapatkan bantuan dari Brasil dalam bentuk kerja sama terkait penyediaan teknologi produksi gula dan tenaga ahli.
“Kami kemarin minta ke Brasil teknologinya untuk bantu teknologi gula, kan dia ahli, dan dia sanggup. Dia sanggupi bahwa akan kirim ahli untuk bantu pabrik gula kita,” kata Amran.
