Arusberita.id – Presiden Joko Widodo (Jokowi) meminta perguruan tinggi menyiapkan Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) yang unggul. Khususnya, dalam rangka menyongsong bonus demografi pada 10 tahun ke depan.
“SDM unggul akan menjadi kunci dan itu yang harus kita persiapkan secara riil dan kongkret. Inilah yang harus kita siapkan karena lima tahun, 10 tahun ke depan, kita akan mendapat bonus demografi,” kata Presiden saat menghadiri Konvensi Kampus XXIX dan Temu Tahunan XXV Forum Rektor Indonesia di Surabaya, Jawa Timur, Senin (15/1/2024).
Menurutnya, sumber daya alam yang melimpah saja tidak cukup untuk menjadikan Indonesia negara maju. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan SDM yang berkualitas.
“Kedua, kita butuh iptek (ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi) dan inovasi berkualitas. Keduanya, tugas penting lembaga pendidikan kita, tugas para rektor dan dosen,” kata Presiden, mengungkapkan.
Selain itu, perguruan tinggi, lanjut Presiden, juga memiliki peran menjadi lembaga riset. Hal itu dikarenakan perguruan tinggi memiliki banyak dosen, begitu pula tenaga peneliti dan mahasiswanya.
“Perguruan tinggi bertugas menjadi lembaga riset, karena memiliki dosen yang sangat banyak, tenaga peneliti dan puluhan ribu mahasiswa. Untuk pengembangan iptek, kuncinya di sini,” kata Presiden Jokowi, menekankan.
Pada kesempatan itu, Kepala Negara bercerita saat kunjungan kerjanya ke Amerika Serikat. Di sana, Presiden Jokowi berkunjung ke dua perguruan tinggi di Washington DC dan San Fransisco.
Dia mengatakan, separuh mahasiswa di kedua kampus besar tersebut didominasi dari Tiongkok. Selain itu, di urutan kedua, yakni mahasiswa yang berasal dari India.
“Saya kemudian berpikir, inilah yang menyebabkan Tiongkok melompat maju di 20 tahun terakhir dan melampaui negara-negara maju. Kedua, India, saya cari mahasiswa dari Indonesia, ternyata ada lima, sangat kecil sekali,” ujar Presiden.
Sementara saat ke Vietnam, Presiden Jokowi mendapatkan informasi yang cukup mencengangkan. Bahwa ada satu perusahaan swasta, Research and Development (R&D) yang memiliki 2.400 peneliti.
Hal tersebut, lanjut Presiden, menunjukkan betapa Vietnam, sangat menghargai riset. Sementara di Tiongkok, ada yang satu perusahaan yang punya 24.000 tenaga R&D.
“Vietnam income per kapita kira-kira 4.200 dolar AS, kita sekarang sudah 5.100 dolar AS. Padahal Vietnam mulai 1975 baru selesai perang, artinya 30 tahun duluan kita, tapi mereka ngebut kenceng,” ujarnya, kembali.
Menurutnya, income per kapita Vietnam dapat melampaui Indonesia. “Kalau kita monoton dan santai saja, bisa kelewat Vietnam, ini yang kita tidak mau,” ucapnya.
