Arusberita.id – Presiden Joko Widodo (Jokowi) telah meresmikan Bandara Mentawai, Sumatera Barat, Rabu (25/10/2023). Bandara ini akan menggantikan bandara sebelumnya karena memiliki kapasitas yang lebih besar.
“Bandara ini akan menggantikan yang sudah ada sebelumnya, yaitu bandara Rokot, Sipora yang panjang runway-nya hanya 850 meter. Hanya bisa didarati oleh pesawat cessna yang kapasitasnya 12 orang,” kata Jokowi dalam sambutannya.
Jokowi mengatakan ini merupakan salah satu bandara terluar di Indonesia, dimana memiliki panjang landasan pacu mencapai 1.500 meter, dengan lebar 30 meter. Sehingga pesawat berjenis ATR sudah bisa mendarat di bandara itu.

Dengan kapasitas yang lebih besar, Jokowi berharap bisa membawa turis yang semakin banyak ke pulau Mentawai. Khususnya yang ingin berwisata melakukan surfing.
“Saya harap dengan beroperasinya bandara ini mobilitas masyarakat akan semakin mudah. Potensi wisata di kepulauan Mentawai juga bisa dikembangkan lebih baik lagi. kita harapkan wisata surfing akan semakin berkembang,” kata Jokowi.

Eks Gubernur DKI Jakarta ini juga meyakini terbukanya akses suatu daerah, maka multiplier effect yang dirasakan masyarakat bisa lebih besar. Bahkan masyarakat sekitar bisa mengembangkan jenis usaha baru.
