Menurutnya, BLT ini menjadi penopang penting bagi masyarakat kelompok bawah, terutama di tengah kondisi perekonomian global yang masih menghadapi berbagai tantangan dan ketidakpastian, termasuk fenomena cuaca El Nino.
Airlangga menjelaskan bahwa dengan adanya El Nino, beberapa komoditas pangan berpotensi mengalami kenaikan harga karena munculnya kekeringan dan gagal panen.
“Jadi kenapa kita berikan, karena tadi kering terus maka kita antisipasi harga-harga akan ada kenaikan tapi Alhamdulillah Pemerintah bisa jaga harga beras relatif stabil, minyak goreng stabil, sehingga kita bantu untuk penyangga,” jelasnya.
Melalui BLT El Nino, pemerintah memberikan bantuan sebesar Rp 400.000 per 2 bulan atau Rp 200.000 per bulan kepada 18,8 juta Keluarga Penerima Manfaat (KPM).
Meskipun program ini akan berakhir pada tahun ini, namun Airlangga menyebut bahwa sejumlah KPM berharap pemerintah dapat melanjutkan kembali penyaluran BLT El Nino pada tahun depan.
